Under the Hashtag#CanteenIsRising!

In our quarterly report somewhere last month, recap that I did indicate that the office of the Assemblyman for Canteen Electoral Area led by one Ananpansah AB had written to and secured a hand pump borehole from World Vision Ghana for the People of Frafra Number 4 who are without portable drinking water. Proceeding this were several requests and appeals to various organizations for portable drinking for the people of the said community, since I understood the plight of the people very well.

See: https://ananpansah-ab.blogspot.com/2021/02/canteen-electoral-area-quaterly-report.html

Happy to announce that true to the words of the organization, the drilling team of World Vision arrived in Canteen yesterday and my good self and my team of hard-working supporting staff led them to the community.

Drilling started in earnest amidst massive support from community members. The team spent two days in doing intensive drilling. After a deph of 20 meters,we discovered water of about 1.5 litters per minute according to what the team leader explained to me. The drilling proceeded to almost 160 meters beneath weathered rocks and the level of the water reduced to 1.3 litters per minute.

The team leader,my good friend,Mr.Augustine then explained to me that the level of water at the said drilling point was not sufficient to serve the entire community and that he will not want us to settle for anything below standard.

It was decided that they convey the message to the office and return to drill any among the other two points the sighting team had earlier on earmarked. But if on the advise of the sighting team, there was the need to return and do new sighting before the drilling, we'll be briefed accordingly. It's however rest assured that the team will return to the community to do the new drilling before the close of next week hopefully. I will bring community members up to date with any arrangements as I'm in constant touch with the team.

By God's grace,my office is very much determined to bring a lasting solution to the portable water challenge of Frafra Number 4. And as already started,I will do anything within my human powers to realise this dream whilst leaving the rest to God.

It's glad to announce that we are on our way to securing this time around,a mechanised borehole project for yet the electoral area. It is 60% through.Lets all pray for the favor of God to accomplish this one to.

Little by little and with your prayers and support,we shall address the many challenges confronting our people and Canteen SHALL BE A SHINING EXAMPLE.

We are making progress with you and for you.

I am confident that you're going to be pleased with the results in the final analysis.

God bless our electoral area and make its people great and strong.

Shalom!

West Gonja: former student leader eyes MCE appointment

West Gonja: former student leader eyes MCE appointment

A former student leader,Kadri Abdul Rahman, has announced his bid to occupy the high office of Municipal Chief Executive for the West Gonja Municipal Assembly in the Savannah Region.

The former SRC president of the University of Education,Winneba, believes he has what it takes to derive the collective energies of the people of the municipality towards the path of progress and transformation.

Having served as a member of the governing council of the university of Education,Winneba, spirited Rahman says he has acquired immense experience in administration and human relations fit for the job.

The confidants of the 38-years-old young man hold the conviction that he has distinguished himself as a grassroot party person capable of balancing the official duties of an MCE with managing the expectations of party supporters in a diligent manner to consolidate the gains of the government.

As a former constituency  deputy youth organizer and currently a constituency and regional communications team member, they say the student leader has paid his dues well to the party and deserve the reward from the president.

They believe he commands the necessary national recognition and respect from the top hierarchy of the party and government officials owing to his dedicated service and therefore,it came to them as no surprise when during the vetting of the current Savannah Regional Minister, hon.Saeed Muhazu Jibril, the Deputy Majority leader, hon.Alexander Afenyo Markin described Mr.Rahaman as a "spiritus Invictus" and encouraged the leadership of the party to take care of him.

Some polling station executives and youth of the party who interacted with this writer affirmed their believe in the capabilities of Mr.Rahaman.They counted his God fearing nature and excellent interpersonal relationship as reflective of his hardwork and diligence.

The NPP Electoral Area Coordinator for Attributo,Mr.Adams' for instance recounted his 14 years friendship experience with the student leader praising him for his sense of compassion, brotherhood and humility.

Kadri Abdul Rahman disclosed that he is more than ready for the job.

He said with the support of the necessary actors, should he be considered for the position he would lift the image of West Gonja as a shining example.

Canteen Is Gradually Rising By Grace

Protecting the children; securing their future

#CanteenIsGraduallyRisingByGrace

In collaboration with World Vision Ghana,we organized a sensitization workshop on child protection and general community development for all parents/guardians of Canteen Electoral Area.

I emphasized the need for the community to delink issues of community development from partisan politics. We have enormous potentials inherent.

Among other things,we discussed and professed practical solutions to issues affecting the development of the school going child,World Vision interventions and cardinal issues of community growth and development.

We need to be opened to our children so they can be sincere to discuss their challenges with us and we must engage them in academically profitable ventures after school for the devil may find work for them as the worse alternative.

Glad to note World Vision recognised our effort at community development and strive to multiply the little we receive

All participants agreed the training program was overly beneficial.

My Unit Committee Chairman,Abdulai Seidu Sumaila,Unit Committee Secretary,Petey Ambrose (Bursar) and Master Aburinya Dominic supported me in this course.

Kind appreciation to the chiefs, elders, women and parents accross the electoral area for responding promptly to our call even on a short notice.

Loud applause to World Vision Ghana for the continuous support. You are the hope of the future.

We can make progress together!

I am convinced that together,we can improve the lots of our community and people.

Our community shall continue to rise by grace!

Drama as students of St.Theresa flee from school for fear of COVID-19 vaccination

Drama as students of St.Theresa flee from school for fear of COVID-19 vaccination

A COVID‐19 vaccine is administered to provide acquired immunity against Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2),the virus responsible for the deadly coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19).

On 24th February,2021,Ghana became the first country outside India to receive COVID-19 vaccine doses shipped through the COVAX facility. About 600 doses of the AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine were received from the Serum Institute of India (SII).

Prior to the arrival of the vaccines, there were a lot of safety concerns raised by the public. The old wives' tales were that the vaccines when taken can cause genetic mutation and affects one's sperms and at worst, lead to untimely death. Others also say it's a mark of the evil 666, whilst some simply misconceive that it's a way of introducing the virus into an innocent person.

The delusion seem real as it clearly played out today at the St.Theresa Nursery/Kindergarten school in the Canteen Electoral Area of the West Gonja Municipal when pupils in a dramatic fashion fled from the school for fear that they were going to be vaccinated.

The whole drama unfolded when a millitary aircraft landed at the vicinity of the school with millitary men and health personnel.

Two of the millitary men and a nurse alighted from the aircraft and walked towards the direction of the school as if to suggest they were going to have an official engagement with the school. At that time, the nurse was carrying a container which gave the general perception that she was carrying the COVID-19 vaccines. The container looks much like the one the Community Health Nurse's usually carry during polio and other vaccination exercises.

The public talk from onlookers at that point was that they were going to administer the COVID-19 vaccine on the pupils.

The students suddenly lost their calm on seing the nurse and the military men enter the school premises.Tried as the teachers did to control the students, the struggle for an escape route increased with most of the pupils scaling the walls of the school to find their way home.

The little kids ran helter-skelter out of the school to join their parents at home. The school within a matter of minutes became empty.

When the team was approached by the Assemblyman for the area of their mission, they disclosed that they were going to their camp, but only sough for refuge at the school premises to wait for their car. They were emphatic that they were not there for any COVID-19 vaccination exercise.

Most of the parents who spoke to this writer where largely unconvinced with the explanation of the millitary men. They insisted their wards will not take any vaccination.Majority of the parents later returned their children to school out of curiosity but, remained unconvinced as they believed the military men where sneaking into the school to vaccinate their children.

It's clear the "above-the-line method" adopted by the Ghana Health Service to convince the public to take the COVID-19 jab is not yielding much results as most parents still hold the conviction that the vaccines are not safe.

With the fear in both parents and pupils,it would take a lot of sensitization to get the students to return fully to school tomorrow.

Worth thousands of Ghana cedis, the gesture is to augment effort by the police command to complete an ultramodern toilet project.

Residents of Yipala/Nabori closedown Chinese Rosewood smuggling Company

Residents of Yipala/Nabori closedown Chinese Rosewood smuggling Company

The residents of Yipala/Nabori Electoral Area in the West Gonja Municipal of the Savannah Region have ordered a shutdown of Zagos New Style Company Limited, dealers in Rosewood and Paapa trees.

Located at Yipala, the company basically buys rosewood and Paapa from local chain saw operators across the Savannah Region and process them into short wood for transportation/smuggling to China.

In a letter copied to this writer however, the Assemblyman for the area,Iddrisu Abdul Rahman together with the Community Chief, Alhaji Braimah Jamani and the youth leaders ordered the company to halt operations forthwith, since they were identified to be operating in the community illegally.

"I wish to stand on a memorandum reached after a community stakeholder meeting to convey that you stop operations in the community forthwith. This has become necessary due to information received by stakeholders of the community from sources within the municipality that you are operating without a permit from the assembly. An act which is against the laws of Ghana and the municipal assembly,"the letter stated.

Portions of the letter also indicated that there was no formal engagement with the community before the company started operating,a situation which didn't afford the community the opportunity to review the operations of the company and its Corporate Social Responsibility thereof.

Meanwhile, snippets of information received by this writer points to the fact that, the operations of Zagos New Style Company Limited largely remains unregulated,a situation which calls for worry.

Background:

It can be recalled that the then Savannah Regional Minister,Salifu Adam Braimah on 10th May,2019, ordered a shutdown of BrivyWelss firm following the arrest of a Chinese woman in Tamale,Helen Huang who was transporting several containers of rosewood to Tema.

The minister then formed a nine-member committee to resolve the twin evils of rosewood logging and commercial charcoal burning which had threatened the sustainability of the environment, farming, food security and communal harmony in the region.

BrivyWelss firm is what has transmogrified today into Zagos New Style Company Limited after the original company sold out its rights to the current company.

Coalition of Muslim Imams call on president Akuffo-Addo to maintain Adam Eliasu as DCE for North Gonja

Coalition of Muslim Imams call on president Akuffo-Addo to maintain Adam Eliasu as DCE for North Gonja

The Muslim Umma accross the rank and file of the North Gonja District in the Savannah Region have launched a passionate appeal to president Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo-Addo to either elevate Mr.Adam Eliasu to a higher position or re-appoint him as the District Chief Executive.

Made up of a coalition of Muslim Imams from the various communities in the North Gonja District, the group believe their demand comes on the back of proven track record and outstanding performance of the DCE over the last four years.

In press conference,Hassan Yahaya Mohammed, the Chief Imam of Ahlasunnah Waljamah who spoke on behalf of the Imams indicated that Mr.Eliasu has distinguished himself in discharging his duties as a District Chief Executive and has done so perfectly by pushing government business in harmony with all stakeholders.

According him, they as Islamic Clerics are aware that they are not politicians and don't intend to be but,the critical role played by a DCE in the socio-economic development of every district makes it imperative for them to have interest in the kind of person that would be appointed to steer the affairs of the district.

He said over the last four years under review, the DCE has executed a lot of life changing projects in the history of the district, ranging from the drilling of numerous boreholes;extension electricity;building of modern toilets, markets and schools;creation of new roads; creating empowerment avenues for women, youth, students and farmers; and returning the lost intergrity of Imams.

They believe when retained, the DCE will further entrench the success of the government of the day in the district and continue very important projects, programmes and policies.

One good character trait they portrayed about the DCE is that,he has not changed his demeanor in handling the grassroot since his first appointment and this has made the NPP largely attractive to many people in the constituency by changing their long held wrong notions about the party.

"We must say that we have been enthused by the sterling manner in which he discharged his mandate. It is on the back of this outstanding performance that we the above group of Imams want to call on the appointing authority to either promote Mr.Adam Eliasu to a higher office in government or maintain him as our DCE in line with the mantra of the NPP, 'One good term deserves another,"he said.

Musah Shaibu,Secretary to the group, reiterated the fact that the delivery of the Daboya-Mankarigu Constituency seat for the first time since its creation to the NPP is one clear evidence of the unmatched output of the DCE.According to him,the District Chief Executive in a spirit never seen before, engaged in door-to-door campaign in almost all the communities in the district during the 2020 electionery campaign and without sabotage, delivered the parliamentary seat as well as the presidency for the NPP in the constituency.

He said the diligence, hardwork and humility of the DCE has endeared the NPP to many hearts in the district, adding that," for the NPP to continue enjoying our support throughout the four years mandate given and the next general election,we appeal to the appointing authority to hearken to our plea by reappointing Mr.Adam Eliasu as our DCE.

The group appealed to the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources and MP for Damongo Constituency,Mr.Samuel Abu Jinapor, the Savannah Regional Minister,Mr.Saeed Muazu Jibril and the Savannah Regional Chairman of the NPP,Mr.Iddrisu Sulemana and his regional executives to help amplify their clarion call to the president for a better New Patriotic Party in the North Gonja District.
