Canteen assemblyman carries out rehabilitation works

Canteen assemblyman carries out rehabilitation works

The spate of road accidents in Ghana is alarming.Statistics show that an average of seven deaths were recorded for the first month of 2020 from road accidents mainly attributed to reckless driving.
There has been a rise in crashes as reflected in the total reported accident cases of 1,191 in January,2020, as compared to 1,036 cases recorded in 2019.

As part of effort to curb the carnage on the road borne out of reckless riding and overspeeding,the Assemblyman for Canteen Electoral Area,hon.Ananpansah,B.Abraham(AB) has mobilised community support to construct rumble strips in accident prone zones in Canteen.

This forms part of his general rehabilitation works initiated in the electoral area.

The phase two of the construction of the speed bumps coincided with the celebration of Eid-ul-fitr and saw the Assemblyman and his team construct multiple rumble strips along the Canteen-to-gravel pit stretch of road.

Residents of the area have on several occasions raised concerns of overspeeding and reckless riding,which is claiming the lives of many domestic animals in the area and endangering lives and properties.

Responding to the plight of the people,the Development Journalist rallied the support of his Unit Committee members and community in an attempt to arrest the challenge.

The award winning journalist cum assembly man,disclosed that as a local leader,he's with the full conviction that it's always better to be proactive in responding to community challenges even in the midst of limited resources,than to wait for eventualities to occur before reacting.

According to him,the gradual reformation of Canteen is at the core of his heart, adding that,"I want to make Canteen Electoral Area a model and a shining example!Canteen will never be the same again.I want posterity to be the judge,so that,after my tenure of office,you will see that the name of the electoral area would be written in gold to the glorification of God"...

He revealed that,the phase one of the rehabilitation works saw the construction of speed bumps along the Canteen-Grains Board and Canteen Canteen road in response to similar calls from residents of the area.

According to the assembly man,plans are far advanced to contribute his quota to the development of sports in the electoral area and to launch an Assembly Man End of Academic Year Excellence Award Scheme to recognise and reward hard work,excellence and talent.

The honorable man earlier on carried out maintenance works on dilapidated bridges in the electoral area.

He said his source of support is the community,his unit committee members and his committed team members.

The award winning development journalist recognised the contributions of Mr.Francis Ewuntomah of the West Gonja Catholic Hospital, Madam Ernestina Yelkabong of hospital Canteen,the Canteen Youth Caucus of NDC,Alhassan Sulemana;a business man inter alia for the continuous support.

It can be recalled that same period last year, the now assembly man organised a clean up campaign in the electoral area to mark the Eid celebration.

The Unit Committee Chairman,Mr.Seidu Sumaila on behalf of the Unit Committee members commended the Assemblyman for his high level of rallying spirit and development oriented nature.

Describing him as a team player,he noted that with collective support,Canteen Electoral Area will be a better place.
He expressed confidence in the potentials of the assembly to take Canteen Electoral Area to the promised land.

A lot has been done already and there is still more work to be done,he added.

Don't be selective with who to prosecute-Manasseh to Akuffo-Addo

Don't be selective with who to prosecute-Manasseh to Akuffo-Addo

Ace investigative and award winning journalist, Manasseh Azuri Awuni,has challenged president Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo-Addo to fight corruption fairly without being selective with who to prosecute.

In reminding the Attorney General about the Zoomlion case,he noted that," what has led these three people at the National Communication Authority(NCA) to jail is just peanuts when you compare it with some of the fraudulent cases involving Zoomlion and his companies".

In an interview with Richard Forgo on Damongo based PAD FM,the anti-corruption campaigner disclosed that as per the evidence available to him,he cannot fault the recent judgement that saw three former appointees of ex-president Mahama with NCA incarcerated for willfully causing financial lost to the state.

The fight against corruption according to him,should not be selective.

He described the former president as his best friend contrary to public opinions.

Mr.Azuri noted that,he voted for president Mahama in the 2016 elections making reference to a book he published titled,"The Fourth John:Reign, Rejection & Rebound,"which was on the administration of the former president Mahama,but said he had to do his work as an objective journalist when he found certain things wrong with his leadership.

The award-winning journalist,whilst practicing with the multimedia group published many controversial stories against the Mahama administration some of which bordered on the then President’s conduct.

Many observers largely from the NDC at the time accused Manasseh of executing an anti-NDC government agenda.

Manasseh denied the accusations saying he has a friendly relationship with former President Mahama and that he admires and respects him.

He crowned the former President as “a gentleman, very tolerant and accommodating,”a real character he said he had written extensively about,adding that,he has a better personal relationship with fomer president Mahama than the sitting president.

NCA trial: NDC petitions Yagbonwura over jailing of Gonja chief

NCA trial: NDC petitions Yagbonwura over jailing of Gonja chief

The Savanannah Regional wing of the National Democratic Congress has petitioned the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom,Yagbonwura Tutumba Boresa 1,over what they describe 'disrespectful sentence of Alhaji Osman Mimina Salifu,a subchief from Gonjaland.

Tagging the sentence as one that is politically motivated,Mr.Malik Basintale,the Regional Communications Officer of the party noted that,the decision to incarcerate the revered chief was without recourse to the customs,norms and tradition of our society.

In submitting a three paged petition to the Overlord at the Jakpa palace,he emphasized that Dinpo-wura Alhaji Osman is a noble man who has contributed enormously to the development and progress of Gonjaland.

"The political persecution by President Akufo-Addo and disrespectful sentence of a Gonja chief,Dinpo-wura Alhaji Osman Mimina Salifu without respect to our traditions and customs is regrettable.A noble man, enskinned by the Gonja kingdom as a chief due to his highly respected profile, A man who brought development, supported generations and contributed immensely to the progress of the Savannah region,"he said.

The NDC spokesman pressed on Yagbonwura to demand answers from President Akufo-Addo as to why he disregarded the tradition of Gonjaland to the convenience of politics.

The petition further pointed to the continuous neglect and disregard for the people of the Savannah Region in the sharing of the national cake by the Akufo-Addo led NPP government.

Whilst doubting the feasibility of the 88 district hospitals as promised by the president,the NDC wondered why the entire Savannah Region escaped capture in the allocation paper as released earlier on by the local government minister.

They described as suspicious,the second updated list which captured two districts in the Savannah Region even though,the president announced that the region was to be allocated three district hospitals plus a regional hospital.

"To our dismay,the final list of 88 hospitals released came without even a single one allocated to the Savannah Region.When we quizzed, we were told that the government had FORGOTTEN of the Savannah Region,and that follow ups were made to get the matter resolved.We wondered how an oversight could still have the released list tally with the 88 number as other regions had theirs increased to fill the space of our omission.

We termed the latter list dated 20th, may 2020, uncertified since the loan facility to be secured was in tally with 88 hospitals and not anything more. This simply meant that, the additional figures were just mere additions to throw dust into the eyes of indigenes out of fear in the deadline given by the NDC,"he noted.

According to Mr.Malik,too long has this administration taken the Savannah Region for granted,citing the wanton abandonment of road projects,hospital projects, rural electrification,schools and water projects started by the previous administration to buttress his point.

He appealed to the Overlord to use his powers as a major stakeholder to call the president and his government to order.

Kusawguwura kunkraga I, received the petition on behalf of the king and promised they were going to take the necessary action.

Oh!What a woman

Oh!What a woman

What a woman,
With love beaming like a candle in the night
Brightening every corner,she is my source of joy and smile
She filled my void days with rainbow lights
My footsteps she ordered with God's might

In those moments mommies boy feel crippled,
She says:Son, rise up and be tripled
From cockcrow to twilight,her laughter ever rippled
Toil she taught me to understand was joy

Oh! What a woman
With tenderness that understands my tears
And a calm that takes away my fears
The journey took her nine months with nightmares not cheers

She was there when I took my first steps
And will never forget to tie my shoes,
Nor tuck me to bed
Her worry is what I will eat and where I have gone to

Oh! What a women
Help me thank her for all the free love, and care
For all the times she was always there.....
I love her with a 'SPECIAL LOVE' that runs deep every moment

Happy mother's Day!

Dedicated to my special mum and all in motherhood.
 (Village writer) celebrates mothers'.

Rallying the support of his Unit Committee members,the honorable man led the youth to clean round the only public toilet in the electoral area.

With synergy and combined energy, the youth tended to keep the vicinity of the lavatory sqeaky-clean.
The garbage was collected and burnt,whilst the interior of the toilet was swept and mobbed.

A road map has been drawn together with opinion leaders and the services of a community member engaged to regularly clean the toiled and take charge of its maintenence.

The Assembly man reiterated the fact that his vision is to see a gradual reformation of Canteen Electoral Area and sanitation is key in this agenda,adding that,"the community has the power to create health".
According to him,it is more costly to treat diarrheal disease such as Cholera,Typhoid inter alia than the community mobilising to engage in communal labour.

The Development Journalist disclosed that together with his Unit Committee members,the month of May has been declared 'communal labour month' where major rehabilitation works would be carried out in the electoral area.

Already,work is ongoing on a dilapidated bridge on an important link road in the community.

Rumble strips he noted,would be constructed in accident prone areas in the electoral area to safeguard lives.

He prayed for support from well meaning members of the community to realise this all important goal.

VRA/NEDCO committee meets Damongo over power flatuation

VRA/NEDCO committee meets Damongo youth over power flatuation

A five member committee set up by the Volta River Authority(VRA) and the Northern Electricity Distribution Company(NEDCO) has met with the youth of Damongo over the abrupt power flatuation that happened a fortnight ago.

The youth was represented by the leadership of the Damongo Branch of the Gonjaland Youth Association(GLYA) and its sister youth group,the Damongo Youth Parliament(DYP).

The committee is chaired by Mr.John Teiko,Chief Technician Engineer.Other members are:Mr.Edward Nii Aryeetey,Chief Technician Engineer(member);Ing.David Dagbui,Electrical Engineer(Member);Mr.Frank Agbarti,Assistant Chief Technician Engineer(Member), with Mr . Emmanuel Baba,the Damongo Area manager for VRA being a co-opted member.

The committee interacted extensively with the youth fronts.It has the mandate to investigate into circumstances that led to the high voltage transmission that caused abrupt power flatuation in Damongo and its environs on 24th April,2020,and the damages therefrom.

The Secretary to the committee said even though they received so many complaints,the greatest of concern that prompted them to act came from the youth fronts of the Damongo Branch of the Gonjaland Youth Association and its sister youth group,Damongo Youth Parliament.

He said as a cooperate entity,their soul purpose is to serve the customer to the best of ability,adding that,"without you the customer,we are nothing".

Mr.John Teiko in his welcome address apologised to the youth over the unfortunate incident and encouraged the leadership to help the committee come out with a comprehensive report which would be a "win-win for all.

According to him,the essence of the investigation is not just to find out the cause of the incident,but to forestall any future occurrences from both the technical and social point of view.
He invited comments from the youth fronts on how the incident occurred and the damages caused.

The chairman of the Damongo Branch of the Gonjaland Youth Association who doubles as the youth chief,Nyiribiwura Yakubu Jaga,lamented the extent of damages the incident had caused residents of the district.

He said but for timely intervention of leadership of the youth in managing tensions, the story would have been different from the enraged public.
The youth chief reiterated that the extent of damages caused cannot be quantified.

Secretary to the Damongo Youth Parliament and Assembly man for Canteen,Mr.Ananpansah B Abraham,narrated that the regrettable incident which merit compensation from VRA/NEDCO happened in the full glare of his very eyes.

According to him,he was watching television with his friends when all of a sudden,he noticed smoke emanating from the television set.
The lights suddenly went off in a scary manner and he instructed a colleague to switch off the main power supply.Minutes after,he got inundated with calls from electorates,friends and people complaining about damages to their electrical appliances as a result of the sudden spike in power supply to their homes.Some houses caught fire in the process coupled with severe damages to electrical appliances,he added.

Whilst calling of VRA to always give prior notice before putting out lights, he placed a strong call on the body to urgently fix a damaged transformer in his electoral area,Canteen which has since kept the area where the West Gonja Hospital is situated in darkness for days.

Mr, Kelly Gbolo,Madam Alijata and hon.Mary who are all executive members of the Gonjaland youth association reiterated the need for VRA/NEDCO to appropriately compensate residents.
They also called on the corporate body to maintain close ties and strengthen its communication with customers, since VRA/NEDCO did not come out with any apology after the incident.

Hon.Adamu Zomnura Shaibu of Damongo Youth parliament,Mr.Musah Majeed and Mr.Sumaila sought for explanation about the 50% free power supply by the president.It was explained that March consumption has been used as a benchmark to do the calculation and that all Ghanaians are entitled to the package.

The National P.R.O. of the GLYA,Mr.Mufti Habid emphasized on the need for VRA/NEDCO to deploy effective ways of communicating with its clients by employing the local media houses as well as social media.

The committee applauded the youth for invaluable contributions and promised to come out with a comprehensive report that will reflect the situation on the ground.
On the issue of compensation,they admonished leadership of the youth to manage the expectations of the people, further noting that any decision to that effect would depend on the outcome of the investigation and what they have heard from the youth fronts.

The Damongo Area manager owing to the concerns raised by the Assembly Man of Canteen,Mr .Abraham Ananpansah,was charged to move in and fix the Canteen situation with immediate effect.

The good old days

The good old days

By:Abraham B Ananpansah

Now the good old days are gone;To God be the glory for reality is dawn;
Life from of old;A story to be told.

Told of a society that blossomed like a lily;
Told of days we drunk in the same calabash;
Played football matches,
Drunk palm wine in batches-
But never ended up slanging matches.
For neighbourhoods were Virgin and divisions were merging.

Those were the days-Days,I was much older than I am today;
Life was drunken by pleasure,
Wives were heightened treasure
Toil to children was joyful leisure

We stood,elders sat and told fairy - tales
The paths our father's constructed were not sold
Our story was thus,gold.

Now the days are gone;
And here,I speak of the good old days our smiles were innocent;
Music made meaning to the kids
It was kpana that made the hits
Bamaya moved the feets
Feok groomed the kids.

But now,the good old days are gone;And we may say the past is sold-
We may say society is dead-
Dead to politics
Dead to hatred
Dead to vile envy

We may say the bank of happiness is bankrupt;
The solid rock of brotherhood is broken.

The days are gone;And we may say,
We may say neighbourhoods have become islands;
Progress a fairy wish land;
Mercies that tripled are now,cripled into curses;

Now the good old days are gone;And so I cry,O great Christ
Thy servant cries;
Save us from these crises;
For time has stolen the good old days,
And I seek those days.
