Abu Jinapor facilitates installation of X-ray Machine at West Gonja Catholic Hospital

Deputy Chief of Staff,Abu Jinapor facilitates installation of X-ray Machine

The Deputy Chief of Staff who doubles as the NPP parliamentary candidate for Damongo constituency, Lawyer Samuel Abu Jinapor, has facilitated the installation of a state-of-the-art digital X-ray machine for the West Gonja Catholic Hospital in the Savannah Region.

Through the National Health Insurance Scheme(NHIS),he assisted the hospital to acquire an Automatic Voltage Regulator(AVR) at a cost of Ghc131,724.93 paving way for the installation of the X-ray machine.
The AVR is supposed to stabilise the power.

This is to enable the hospital handle cases requiring X-ray Therapy.

At a short ceremony to operationalize the machine, the Deputy Chief of Staff commended the management and staff of the hospital for the good work they were doing in the service of humanity.
He said hitherto residents of Damongo had to travel all the way to Tamale to access X-ray Therapy which was not only burdensome, but comes along with cost implications.

He was of the conviction that the intervention was going to help a great deal in the health care delivery of the municipality.
The Deputy Chief of Staff lauded the hospital for the advanced preparedness plan it put in place to combat the spread of the COVID-19 in the municipality.

"I recall sometime last year when the hospital administration came to crave my indulgence to assist in the sourcing of funding from National Health Insurance Authority for this X-ray machine to be installed.I am very very excited that at long last,we have been able to pull this through.Because,as you rightly put it,residents of West Gonja and Damongo, and its environs have to travel all the way to Tamale to get X-ray facilities when they are not well,"he noted.

Health care delivery he said, was a collective effort of all stakeholders, pledging to support the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the hospital with two incubators.

The Medical Superintendent of the hospital,Dr.Vitalis Saadare, expressed gratitude to the Deputy Chief of Staff for the kind gesture.
He disclosed that the equipment was going to benefit the entire Savannah Region, adding that,"this is a gesture that is worth emulating".

"I always say if we've politicians interested in the welfare of the people this country will develop. And he is one of those that we are grateful to have in our midst. And we encourage everyone out there, Philanthropist and politicians alike to emulate his good example,"he said.

The promise by Lawyer Abu Jinapor to donate two incubators in his view will go a long way to help the hospital confidently manage preterm babies, calling on the people of Damongo and Savannah Region to join hands in thanking him.

He also thanked him for donating 100 vials of anti-snake venom and some Personal Protection Equipment to the hospital.
According to him,the hospital has made certain request to Lawyer Abu Jinapor for consideration

He called on other well meaning individuals and organisations to come to the aid of the hospital.

Also present were party functionaries, the Municipal Chief Executive of West Gonja;hon.Saeed Jibreal, members of the Normalisation Committee of the hospital, the acting administrator of the hospital;Father Lazarus Annyiere and the media.

Damongo MP donates anti-snake venom to tackle anticipated surge in snakebites

Damongo MP donates anti-snake venom to tackle anticipated surge in snakebites

The Member of Parliament for Damongo constituency, hon.Adam Mutawakilu, has donated 40 vials of Anti-Snake Serum and two Infrared Thermometers to the West Gonja Catholic Hospital in the West Gonja Municipality.

This is to enable the hospital tackle anticipated increase in snakebite cases as we gradually approach the rainy season characterised by farming activities and sheanut picking.

Mr.Alhassan Braimah, the NDC Constituency Secretary for Damongo presented the items on behalf of the legislator.

He disclosed that the donation was in fulfilment of a pledge the MP made, whilst donating Personal Protection Equipment on behalf of the former president to the hospital in the wake of COVID-19 Weeks ago.

According to him,the law maker remains committed to the health and wellbeing of his constituents and will continuo to support the hospital in diverse ways.
He pledged the support of hon.Galus as he is affectionately called to the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic that is traumatising the world.

The Medical Superintendent of the hospital,Dr. Vitalis Saadaare, expressed appreciation to the Member of Parliament for the kind gesture.

He said the donation of the Anti-Snake Serum particularly, was very timely since this was the wet season with anticipated rise in snakebites.
According to him,it has always being very difficult if not impossible for victims of snakebites from vulnerable farming communities to afford the expensive Antivenom.

He lauded the MP for starting the initiative of supporting the hospital with the Anti-Snake Serum and sustaining it for three consecutive years, stating that,'hon. Adam Mutawakilu is a man of his words'.

Dr.Vitalis pledged the facility was going to put the items into good use,but like Oliver Twist,he requested for more.

The Communications Director of the NDC,Mr.Mumuni Yahaya Zambache, reiterated the fact hon.Galus will always set the pace for other politicians to follow.

He noted that for three years now, after a Development Journalist,Mr.Ananpansah, B. Abraham brought to light the plight of victims of snakebites in Northern Ghana, the MP adopted it as a project and has been consistent in his support to the West Gonja Hospital.

According to him,the NPP Parliamentary candidate for Damongo constituency,Lawyer Abu Jinapor, was suffering from credibility crisis.
He recounted that last year,in trying to imitate the MP, he pledged to support the hospital with 100 vials of the Antivenom, but ended up delivering 50 vials.

He challenged him to pay the arrears to the facility, but welcomed his decision to copy the good initiative of the honourable MP.

Hon.Iddrisu Balori Abdul-Rahman,the constituency organiser of the party, disclosed that the utmost priority of the MP is to save lives.
In his observation, the law maker's support to the constituency in terms of health delivery was unquantifiable.

He encouraged the constituents to massively endorse the candidature of the MP for consolidated development.

Assembly Man calls for implementation of president's free water supply in electoral area

Assembly Man calls for implementation of president's free water supply in electoral area

The Assembly man for the Canteen Electoral Area, hon.Ananpansah B Abraham has called on the West Gonja Municipal Water board to allow his electorates free access to water in line with the president's directive.

In a letter addressed to the Municipal Manager of the Ghana Water Company and copied to PAD FM,he said it was imperative for residents to regularly wash their hands as prescribed by the Ghana Health Service and access to water was key in achieving this.

He thus called on the Municipal Water Manager to stop billing residents for water they fetched from the two mechanised boreholes in the electoral area managed by the Ghana Water Company.

According to him,his electoral area deserves to also benefit from the three months free water supply spanning April, May and June.

"The Canteen Electoral Area currently operates two mechanized boreholes under the management of the Ghana Water Company.
Residents pay before fetching water from these boreholes and the revenue is collected by the Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Water Company.

In line with the president’s pronouncement, I wish to impress on your good office to direct your water vendors and revenue collectors to stop selling the water to electorates.
This would enable us to regularly wash our hands as required by the Ghana Health Service and the World Health Organization,"he said.

He lamented the lack of proper management of the facilities in the area coupled with the revenue leakages and wastage of the water borne out of damaged but unrepaired taps, supply tubes, pipe lines inter alia.

The challenges of the damaged parts of the boreholes he noted, have been tabled severely before the water board for repairs to no avail.

According to him, upon assumption of office he has organised several stakeholders' meetings on proper water resource management with focus on the World Vision funded mechanised boreholes.
This led to the formation of a Community Water Management Committee which has since been working on several recommendations.

He appealed to the water board to work closely with the interim Water Management Committee in the larger community interest.

The issues of damaged parts of the boreholes he said have been on the table of the water board for long and ought to be resolved.

The Assembly Man who has since been embarking on sensitization tours to some communities in the electoral area in the wake of the novel Coronavirus admonished electorates to follow the directives of the Ghana Health Service.

The president in his fifth address to the nation on Sunday, April 5,2020, indicated it would take care of the water bills for all Ghanaians for three months following an increase in the country’s COVID-19 cases amidst a partial lockdown of the epicenters of the virus.

“Again, the Ghana water company limited and the electricity company of Ghana have been directed to ensure a stable water and electricity supply during this period.

In addition, there will be no disconnection of supply.
Furthermore, government will absorb the water bills for all Ghanaians for the next three months, i.e., April, May and June. All water tankers, publicly and privately owned, are also going to be mobilized to ensure the supply of water to vulnerable communities”. the president disclosed.

Ghana ' case count currently stands at 313 with six deaths and three full recoveries.

World Of Viruses: All We Need Is Research,Not Emotional Excesses

World Of Viruses: All We Need Is Research,Not Emotional Excesses

The macrocosm once again is on its knees following a deadly scare unyielding in determination to obliterate human existence.
Throughout history, infectious disease outbreaks have wrecked mayhem, reshaped the course of humanity, beckoning the end of civilizations and long after they disappear, they entrench in us a scare to be recounted in history and folktales.

As a basic school science teacher,I will like to share my few thoughts on viruses from my little studies. Albert Einstein,Isaac Newton,Charles Darwin,Michael Faraday etal would have provided a better insight,I understand. But this is the little I can contribute to the running debate.

Indeed,we live in a world of viruses. But today,we are confronted with the untamed spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Albeit disturbing, this is not the starting point and may not be the end of viruses or infectious disease outbreaks.
History is still very much replete with the following infectious outbreaks that have claimed many lives:

the H1N1 Swine Flu pandemic:2009-2010,West African Ebola epidemic:2014-2016,Zika Virus epidemic:2015 to present day,AIDS pandemic and epidemic:1981 to present day,Spanish Flu:1918-1920,Prehistoric epidemic:Circa 3000 B.C,Plague of Athens:430 B.C.,the Black Death:1346-1353,Philadelphia yellow fever epidemic:1793,American polio epidemic:1916,Flu pandemic:1889-1890 ad infinitum.

The world first caught wind of the novel Coronavirus on December 1,2019, in Wuhan, the Capital of Hubei province,China, involving a 55-year-old man who fell ill on November 17,2019.
COVID-19 it is believed, originated from a "wet" market" in Wuhan which sold both dead and living wild animals, including fish and birds, hence it has a zoonotic origin.

The science of human-to-animal interactions and exchanges at the individual and cultural level impacts greatly on the health and well-being of older adults, particularly.
It's useful to state that the more human beings continuo to interact with their environment, including animals, and the more civilized humans interact with different populations of animals in the ecosystem, the more likely pandemics would occur.
This is because, animal related diseases would be transferred to humans.
It is therefore not surprising that Chinese city,Shenzhen has banned the sale and consumption of dog and cat meat in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic.

It is or should also be stated that, the more we hold to the unscientific conviction that these infectious outbreaks are borne out of the wrath of spirits and gods, the more disastrous reactions and associated deaths we will most likely record.

Viruses do not discrimine-they can affect the poor and the rich; the weak and the mighty; the young and the old. You name them.

I should like to differentiate between virus and bacterium.
Like giraffes and goldfish, viruses and bacteria caused by microbes look very much alike, but can be differentiated.
Virus is a small infectious agent that can only reproduce in other living cells.Viruses are smaller than bacteria and cannot survive without a living host. They attach themselves to cells within an organism, reprograms them to reproduce itself.
Unlike bacterium, virus mostly cause diseases such as AlDS, herpes, cold, influenza and chickenpox.
Vaccination is required to prevent viral infection.Antiviral drugs produced in response to the AlDS pandemic inhibit the development of viruses, but do not destroy them.Viruses sometimes resolve themselves through the immune system without any treatment.

Bacteria are larger than viruses and made up of a single cell. They are simple organisms that replicate outside other cells and are everywhere-in the soil, water, air, animals and on plants. Most bacteria are not harmful and help in destroying disease-causing organisms as well the digestion of food.
Some bacteria however cause infections such as tuberculosis, strep throat, pneumonia, skin infection and urinary tract infection.
Bacteria infection can be destroyed by the recommended antibiotics.

Both bacteria and viral infections are spread through coughing, sneezing, contaminated food, water and surfaces, and contact with affected persons, especially through sex and kissing.

The Novel Coronavirus pandemic is a new and different form of viruses closely related to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome(SARS) epidemic which was caused by SARS-CoV and spread through global air travel. It traumatised the world from 2002 to 2003 infecting 8,096 people from 29 countries and territories, and killing at least 774 people across the globe.(The first case of SARS was recorded on November 16,2002,in China's Guangdong province of Hong Kong).

Following a sustained period of community-level transmission in multiple countries across the globe, the World Health Organisation(WHO),on 30th January,2020,officially declared the COVID-19 outbreak to be a pandemic.More than 170 countries and territories across the globe have recorded at least one case.

As at April 4,2020,13:00 hours,a total of 1,034,085 Coronavirus Cases were recorded across the globe with 54,458 deaths and 220,023 recoveries.

The Republic of Ghana recorded its first cases of Coronavirus on March 12,2020,involving two people who came back to the country from Turkey and Norway.
According to the Ghana Health Service, the country's case count as at today,April 4,2020,14:00 hours, stands at 204(147 active cases) with five deaths and three complete recoveries. The number of regions reporting cases remain five (5)-Greater Accra, Ashanti, Northern, Upper West and Eastern).
The Greater Accra Region has the most cases-(174) followed by the Northern Region (10), Ashanti Region (9), Upper West Region (1) and Eastern Region (1).

The World Bank has since extended a $100 million credit facility to the government of Ghana as emergency support to help increase our Coronavirus response.
The government of Ghana has set up a National Trust Fund to receive donations from the public.(Loan - Donations = Burden on future generations).

Adequate data about the transmission of the COVID-19 is still missing in academic research and discourses.Studies however, reveal that the virus mainly spreads by close contact with an infected person within 1 to 2 metres and through respiratory droplets produced during coughing and sneezing. The virus is not considered airborne.

The common symptoms of the virus include cough, fever and shortness of breath.

Coronavirus is not heat resistant. It detest the scorching sun and can be killed at a temperature of 26/27 degree celsius.

It's recommended that we wash our hands with soap and running water for at least 20 seconds, especially after visiting the John, coughing, sneezing or blowing one's nose.
The virus is killed by soap outside the human body as soap burst its protective bubble.
Also, the use of alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol by volume where soap and running water are not available in a ready manner.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends daily disinfection of frequently touched surfaces.
Products containing bleach, alcohol or hydrogen peroxide are best in killing off germs.
Alcohol kept at a concentration around 70% can be diluted with water or Aloe Vera to make hand sanitizers to kill Coronavirus.
Even though, they may be effective, but there is no evidence that Vinega,Tea Tree Oil and natural products can kill Coronaviruses.
Worthy of acceptance is the suggestion by the WHO that we should avoid touching our eyes, mouth or nose with unwashed hands.

Nations have adopted measures such as quarantines(stay-at-home order),lockdown(shelter-in-place order),curfews, travel bans and restrictions ad infinitum.

Already, over 50 Coronavirus(COVID-19) vaccine trials are ongoing according to the World Health Organization(WHO).
Fourty-five (45) countries have also signed up to a WHO led multi-country level solidarity clinical trial of different drugs.

The government of Ghana has started administering hydroxychloroquine,an anti-malaria drug to COVID-19 patients.
It gladdens my heart to note that the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research has begun clinical trial of a locally produced food supplement, COA FS, proven to be an immune booster that may help in the fight against the virus.
Germany as well activated their flying ICU plane with a capacity of 44 beds of which 16 are for high intensive care patients and up to 25 medical staff,to fly Coronavirus patients from Italy to hospitals in Germany.

We need more of such explorations and inventions. This is not the time for superstition.
All we need now is research, not panic or emotional excesses.

Our epidemiologists, scientists, medical laboratory technicians, herbal scientists and the brainiacs in the study of nature must begin to pull out the PhD's and doctors degree's from the drawers.Time to get to the laboratory and research labs and find an urgent solution.
More resources should be channelled by governments towards studies that can unravel the truth about the virus and the possible way out.
There must be an end to Coronavirus someday somehow.
And that solution can be your curiosity.
That hope in sight as we battle COVID-19 is intensive research, not hysteria.

With God,energetic effort and research, the world shall overcome!

Shalom!

COVID 19: we won't accept reckless tribalism and attacks on John Mahama-NDC to NPP

COVID 19: we won't accept reckless tribalism and attacks on John Mahama-NDC to NPP

The National Democratic Congress in the Savannah Region says the Nana-Addo led NPP government has failed in its effort at mobilising the necessary logistics, resources and personnel in the fight against the deadly COVID-19.

In a statement, its Communication Director, Mr.Malik Basintale, describe as reckless attempts by the NPP in the region to equalize this failure with unguided attacks on the person of former president Mahama.

He said they would resist such attacks with combined energy and synergy.

Whilst distancing themselves from partisan politics with regards to the fight against Coronavirus,he said the donation by Ex-president Mahama to the Ridge hospital was timely and commendable.

In his view, the gesture to the hospital was simply patriotic.

"That was a patriotic donation to Ghana and shall remain a patriotic donation for and on behalf of the Savannah Region. We are happy that a son of the soil is making waves not only in his home Region but touching humanity everywhere in the Country without due regard to where one comes from," he said.

He therefore wondered why the NPP would think that the donation should have been made to the many hospitals in the Savannah Region, where the former president hails from.

"We thank them for exposing the total failure of Akufo-Addo's Government in the fight against this deadly Virus and feel sad for most especially the front line Health Staff who have been directed by Nana Addo to undertake such suicide missions of having to combat this deadly pandemic without the neccessary PPEs.

We are saddened that the arm chair executives of the NPP will allow thoughts of petty politics, shameful and unethical propaganda and gross irresponsibility supercede the very patriotic attitude we have been wanting to share with them at least in fighting this deadly pandemic,"excerpts of the statement read.

The NDC he noted, was contributing its quota in the fight against Coronavirus in the Savannah Region with the donation of Veronica buckets, money, secondary logistics among other Personal Protection Equipment.

According to him, they have made several calls to President Akufo-Addo to equip hospitals and health facilities in the region with Personal Protection Equipment and logistics to no avail.

He admonished the NPP to desist from politicising issues with regards the Coronavirus and join hands with well meaning citizens and stakeholders to contain the spread of the virus in the region.

The spokesman for the umbrella family called on president Akuffo-Addo and his team that toured Europe, including the Deputy Chief of staff,Lawyer Abu Jinapor and the NPP Savannah Regional Chairman,Prof. (Kalimonia) to self-isolate and get tested for COVID-19.

Finalisation of Fixed Deposit Account In Aid of Children of Madam Sayeba of blessed memory

Finalisation of Fixed Deposit Account In Aid of Children of Madam Sayeba of blessed memory

Permit me some time and space to come your way once again with some useful final updates on our collective fundraising campaign in aid of Madam Haruna Sayeba of blessed memory.

Please, dedicate sometime and go through item by item and be free to ask any question, seek clarification or contact me with useful suggestions for the future. (With regards! ).

I dully acknowledged Ghc31.00 contribution from Daniel Mahama on 9th February, 2020.God richly bless you.
#A white philanthropist has also been contacted to see how he could assist the children. The response is quite positive and we pray something good comes out of it.

Madam Sayeba passed onto glory on Saturday,January 18,2020, at the Akomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.

She died from a condition known as Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis/Stephen Johnsons Syndrome.
(For more explanation, contact the doctors and health practitioners).

Remember,I opened a suggestion box on our various online platforms -WhatsApp and Facebook to collate views from the general public and especially, the cherished donors on what to do with the remaining balance. The collated views pointed to one thing-Setting up a Trust Fund for the children and establishing the elder son in a trade since that has been his desire after dropping out of school.

Following the above,a committee was set up to draw a roadmap for the untilization of the remaining balance for the benefit of the children.

The committee consists of:

Mr.Sufuyanu (family member),Chief ZiblaWura (family member),Madam Rahinatu(elder sister of Madam Sayeba),Mr.Alhassan Braimah (West Gonja Hospital), Mr.Matthew Zaabelle (PAD FM Manager),and Mr.Ananpansah B. Abraham(Lead campaigner/fundraiser).

From my last updates,I disclosed the difficulties we were going through in opening individual accounts for the children due to the fact that only one of them had a birth certificate. The rest were only able to produce their weighing cards which we thought would be accepted as valid documents. But after processing the necessary documents and submitting to the bank (GCB),only the one with the birth certificate went through.

To this end,

Considering the time and resources that would be vested if we mean to acquire birth certificates for the rest of children,we've decided to collapse all into a consolidated account.

Owing to the fact that none of these children is up to 18 years, the account is to be managed on their behalf by two trustees-Madam Iddrisu Rahinatu(senior sister of late Haruna Sayeba) and Iddrius Sufuyanu(family member). (The fixed deposit account with Ghana Commercial Bank can only be accessed after 48 month-four years).

Note: the mother of late Sayeba has taken responsibly of taking care of all the four children.Three of them are currently staying with her at Abingakura  and attending school-One at Presby Primary School and the other two at Damongo KG/Primary.

Now,to the financial aspect:

Balance at hand ( Ghc9,546.00 - Ghc 776.00) =  Ghc8770.00.

Resolutions/Disbursements of (Ghc8770.00):

(1) With the first born who has expressed desire to learn a trade,he has since been enrolled as an apprentice at AU collections,a tailoring shop in Damongo. After finalising the process,Ghc520.00.00 was transferred to Iddrius Sufuyanu to settle the admission fee and cost of entrance form.

(3) Finally,a cash amount of Ghc6,050.00 has been deposited in a fixed deposit account with accounts number 8031220001222 at the Ghana Commercial Bank.Ghc50.00 is the minimum balance/minimum capital requirement for running the account.
The trustees on behalf of the children are Iddrisu Rahinatu and Iddrius Sufuyanu. The money together with the accumulated interest can only be accessed with the consent of the children after 48 months.
Copies of receipt of payment will be made available to the trustees and can be accessed by the general public as well.Kindly contact me in this regard.
Mind you, when the children turn 18 years and are now qualified to own accounts numbers, the money can be transferred into their own account numbers.

You can also contribute to the account/fund.(Let's know if you desire to do so for due acknowledgment).

Note: accumulated Mobile Money withdrawal charges amounted to Ghc90.00 and some pesewas. (You could do the calculation from Ghc9,546.00).

Most kind regards and God richly bless you for your generosity towards this campaign.
May the ever merciful God replenish your effort in thousand folds. Blessed indeed is hand that gives; for its more blessed to give than receive.
And may we continuo to stand by each other in times of difficulties.

Rest in peace dear sister! You fought well .You've United many voices across the length and breath of the globe and increased in us the genuine spirit of compassion for humanity and benevolence.

# UBUNTU ( I am because you are and you are because I am).
