Savannah region:We'll resist attempt to register aliens-Damongo NDC warns

The opposition National Democratic Congress in the Damongo constituency is raising red flags about the possibility of the voter's register in the constituency being ruined with names of aliens as the EC begins its nationwide Limited Voter's Registration exercise in preparation towards the conduct of the 2019 District Level Elections scheduled for Tuesday December 10,2019.

In a statement signed by the Communication Director, Mr.Mumuni Yahaya and copied to Ghanawebs' Ananpansah B Abraham, the NDC warns they would resist "till the last drop of their blood" any attempt to register non-residents in the constituency.

According to the statement, credible intelligence picked by the party unmask clandestine plans by the NPP to bus and register people from Leeto,Yapei Kusawgu,Bole Charma ad infinitum in its desperate attempts to win power in the constituency.

Portions of the statement reads," The leadership of the National Democratic Congress in the Damongo constituency has picked credible information to the effect that, the ruling New Patriotic Party in its desperate attempts to win the Damongo Constituency seat has set out a hidden agenda to bus and register aliens in the upcoming limited registration exercise scheduled to start on Monday,June 17,2019"....

The Limited Registration exercise which was originally scheduled for June 7,had to be postponed following an injunction application filed by a Ghanaian citizen,Mr.Umar Ayuba, challenging the decision by the election management body(EC) to hold the registration in its district offices and some selected electoral areas.
But the Supreme Court in its ruling on whether to uphold the injunction or not, dismissed the application paving way for the EC to carry on the exercise.

The Communication Bureau;National Democratic Congress ,
Damongo constituency.

16th June, 2019.

For immediate release

We'll resist any attempt to register aliens in Damongo Constituency

The leadership of the National Democratic Congress in the Damongo constituency has picked credible information to the effect that, the ruling New Patriotic Party in its desperate attempts to win the Damongo Constituency seat has set out a hidden agenda to bus and register aliens in the upcoming limited registration exercise scheduled to start on Monday,June 17,2019.

Further intelligence reveal that the NPP plan to bus these people from the following communities/towns:Leeto,Yapei Kusawgu, Buipe,Bole, Charma and Fulfulso Junction.

We wish to sound a strong warning to the NPP that,we would resist "till the last drop of our blood" any attempt to register aliens in our dear constituency.

We wish to use this avenue to appeal to parents and guardians of these children to kindly advice and restrain their children from being forcefully engaged in this illegality.

We've also strategically positioned our members across the length and  breadth of the constituency to check the influx of such people at the registration centres.

We would not sleep, but would stay awake all day and night to ensure the right things are done in the name of democracy and to protect the sanctity of the exercise.

Thank you.

More than 800 students sit for 2019 BECE in West Gonja District

The 2019 Basic Education Certificate Examination(BECE) has commenced in earnest in the West Gonja District of the newly created Savannah region.

A total of 833 candidates from 26 public schools and one private school in the district are taking part in the examination which is being conducted at the Assembly Hall of the Damongo S.H.S.

The District Chief Executive, hon.Saeed Muhazu Jibreal in a goodwill message on behalf of the regional minister cautioned the candidates against all forms of examination malpractices;encouraging them to strive to progress to the next level.

He implored the candidates to remain focused with full concentration and obey all the rules and regulations governing the conduct of the examination, stating that,"when your result is cancelled,it means that you can't go to school next year and your colleagues would go leaving you".

He charged candidates to take advantage of the free Senior High School policy introduced by government and make meaning out of their lives.
The DCE donated 833 Marshels procured by the Deputy Chief of Staff, Lawyer Abu Jinapor to the students.

The District Director of Education,Mr.Adam Salifu Bigger said they were going to make sure the rules and regulations governing the conduct of the examination are applied to the letter.

He disclosed that they were going to weed out all candidates who managed to register for the examination but were not form three's, adding that, such a practice was contrary to WAEC regulations.

Meanwhile,Ghanaweb's Ananpansah B Abraham can confirm that four candidates have been prevented from writing the examination after they were all identified to be form two students.
They include two boys and two girls.

Grapevine information gathered by this writer indicates that, the headmasters who managed to register these "non form three" students would be severely sanctioned by the directorate to serve as a deterrent to others.

@Ananpansah AB's Community Diaries(Photo gallery)

Through networking and personal relationship,I Lobbied through Child Empowerment Network,a registered Community Based Organisation to support final year students of Canteen Junior High Schools (Block A & Block B) with Mathematical Sets, Rulers, Pens and Pencils.

Each student received a mathematical set, pen, pencil and a long rule as part of the support package.
A total of 44 registered candidates from the two blocks benefited from the package that is meant to urge them on and aid them to produce the best grades for the "great Canteen" and the district at large.

I used the opportunity to remind the students of the heavy task ahead of them.
Last year,Canteen J.H.S got nomination for the presidential excellence awards, but we didn't get the ultimate presidential handshake.
The message was simple:this time around, we don't just want to be nominated, we want to bring the presidential handshake and honor to Canteen. The hardworking and committed teachers cum comrades have done their best. It's now time to convert their effort to a collective success at the "test.

It's my prayer and hope that the students would put up their best and leave up to the expectations of our hardworking teachers and community at large.

Best wishes to my fellow Canteen Yaara and all BECE candidates.
BECE is not a different kind of exams. It can be equated to your end of term exams so, remain calm!

We are with you in supplication.God has made it possible already.

Work hard! Pray hard! Finish hard!

On,on we go for success.

400 rural women empowered to go into beekeeping

400 rural women empowered to go into beekeeping

Source:Ananpansah B Abraham (AB)

Some 400 rural women in eight communities in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the newly created Savannah Region have received training and livelihood empowerment to go into beekeeping business.

The one day training took place at Jilinkon on Saturday morning and afforded beneficiaries the opportunity to learn various techniques of beekeeping, including trapping of the bees into beehives, using protective clothing and harvesting of honey.

They were supported with beekeeping equipment after the training.

With full funding from Man & Nature in France, the three-years project is being facilitated by the Coalition for Development of Northern Ghana (NORTHCODE-Ghana),an NGO based in the Northern region.

The beneficiary communities are: Jilinkon,Soma,Jang,Wekora,Yoliyiri,Kodanyina number 1,Kodanyina number II and Yamuayiri;comprising 200 women and 100 men who are supposed to be supporting the women.

The project comes along with the construction of a Honey Processing Centre with an office complex and a warehouse were the pure honey would be extracted and processed for a ready market.

In an interview with Ghanawebs' Ananpansah B Abraham after the training, the Director of NorthCode-Ghana who doubles as Chairman of the Coalition of NGO's in Health in the Northern region, encouraged the women to receive the project with all their hearts in order to rip the full benefits.

He said they intend to teach the women how to fish instead of just giving them fish, adding that, they've got ready market for the women.

The French government he explained,is interested in helping communities which are around reserve areas to overpower their chains of poverty.

He said the idea of supporting these women in beekeeping was to help them generate income to add to their already existing stream of income,in order to keep them away from felling trees and converting them into charcoal to make money.

"The French government wants to help communities which are around reserve areas....The idea of supporting (women) in beekeeping is to support you to generate other income from beekeeping. Is because you don't have money, that's why you just go and cut a tree and convert into charcoal...It is not the fault of the women since, that is the only way she can get some money to feed the family. If you give that women something to do, she would not go and cut that tree... ,"he emphasized.

He disclosed that, the main emphasis of the donors' is to support, resource and train Community Resource Management Areas (CREMA) committee members to be active functional, and fully revamped.

CREMA committees he further stated, are to be given mobile phones among others to enhance their communication together with,NTFP to transplant in degraded lands in the rainy season.

He said they intend to ensure sustainable management and utilisation of natural resources, including approved farming practices, environmental protection, zero tolerance for bush burning and tree felling.

The Deputy Manager of Mole National Park,Mr.Festus Courage Agyayaw urged community members to take keen interest in the management of the Mole National Park and other protected areas.

He said when the park was developed, there was no much involvement of the fringe communities in its management and so,the community members didn't see the need and importance for the park.

Community members according to him, were largely denied access to the park with the fear that they would harm the animals. But with time,it was realised that the park cannot be managed without the assistance and involvement of the communities within which it is located.

He lamented the indiscriminate exploitation of our natural resources in the face of growing population, adding that, human beings have become endangered species in the midst of such activities.

He disclosed that, certain medicinal plants and animal species have disintegrated as a result of these unregulated activities.

Government he disclosed, has therefore, come out with a plan so that the communities, government, wildlife and forestry department can work together to promote sustainable exploitation of natural resources through the Collaborative Resource Management Policy.

He further stated that,in order to ensure protection of the park and sustainable resource management, the CREMA was formed to ensure community members use resources in a sustainable manner in the land that belongs to them and not in the park.
He appealed to members to allay fears that the government was going to use the CREMA to seize lands from the communities.

The assembly man for the area,Mr.Kasuga Philip thanked NorthCode-Ghana and the donors for blessing his electoral area with such a giant project.
He promised they were going to receive the project with full commitment and ensure the production of first class honey.

Among the equipment received are:140 beehives, bee stands, over 100 Wallington boots...

Savannah region to get a police training school

Savannah region to get a police training school

The newly created Savannah Region is set to get a Police Training School which will be located at Busunu, a suburb of Damongo, the Savannah regional capital.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr.David Asante-Apeatu whilst on a working visit to the area, disclosed that the President of the Republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo has taken keen notice of the recent rise in crime cases in the region and was forlorn about the situation.

In an address to the Yagbonwura and his elders at the Jakpa Palace in Damongo, he said part of his visit was to inspect the parcel of land allocated to the Ghana Police Service for the purpose of putting up a Police Training School and to observe the flash points of crime in the region for appropriate action.

The hitherto vast nature of the Northern Region according to him, made the work of the police very cumbersome and impeded their smooth and effective operations.
He was optimistic that with the help of the youth, crime rate in the region and district would be reduced to the barest minimum and law and order maintained for a sustained growth and development of the new region.

He further stated that, his continuous travel across the country and interaction with the people will afford him the opportunity to gather first hand information on crime rate and proffer solutions where prudent.

He congratulated Yagbonwura and his elders for attaining the status of a region-Savannah region, adding that, the Ghana Police Service was proud to associate with the newly carved Savannah region.

The Yagbonwura in turn applauded the Inspector-General of Police for making time to visit the new region.
