I am also a Canteen Yaaro - Mahama reveals

Ex-president John Dramani Mahama has said he is a Canteen Yaaro and proud to associate with Canteen Yaara.

He made this stunning revelation at the grand durbar of the 2018 second homecoming event of the Canteen Yaara Development Association(CAYDA) held at the Canteen Central Park in the West Gonja District of the soon to be declared Savannah Region.

The former president was in the district with the MP of Damongo constituency,hon. Adam Mutawakilu to observe the voting process towards the creation of the proposed Savannah Region after casting his vote in the Bole District and paid a surprise visit to the youth group.This was after the MP who was in his company had sought for permission to grace the event,since,he was scheduled to launch the Educational Fund of the association.

The former president opted to accompany the MP and stated at the occasion that he was born at the West Gonja Catholic Hospital which is located in Canteen and that qualifies him as a Canteen Yaaro.

"Canteen Yaaro" is a special colloquial phrase coined out of "Canteen Hausa"...'Canteen Hausa' is the Pidgin version of the standard Hausa Language and 'Canteen Yaaro' within the 'Canteen Hausa' context means "Youth" with no specific age limit.

The ex-president did the association an honor by presenting awards to two students who emerged best in Canteen J.H.S. Block A and Canteen J.H.S. Block B in last year's BECE.The students,Dirbe Peter and Mohammed Hadi who are both currently pursuing General Science at the S.H.S,obtained aggregate 16 and 17 respectively.

The award package which was put together by CAYDA is to serve as a motivation to the subsequent batches and to celebrate the collective victory of a significant improvement made in the 2017 BECE results as compared to the 2016 results,Ananpansah B Abraham,the Secretary of CAYDA-Educom(Canteen Yaara Development Association Educational Commitee) revealed in an interview on PAD FM.

All students who participated in an ealier quiz competion as well as their individual school's took home standard text books as prizes.

The quiz session which was led by Chief Abdallah Tolodompewura Mornoh and supported by Ananpansah B Abraham saw Canteen J.H.S. Block B coming first with a total of 16 points,followed closely by St. Anne's J.H.S. Block A who obtained 11.5 points,St. Anne's J.H.S. Block B placed third with a total of 9 points whilst Canteen J.H.S. Block B occupied the fourth position with a total of 8 points.

The Member of Parliament in launching the fund,pledged an amount of Ghc2000 on behalf of the former president for CAYDA Education and Development Fund.He further promised to donate Ghc5000 annually into the fund starting from 2019.

In a similar light,prof.Addah Wesseh,a Canteen Yaaro and a product of Canteen J.H.S. has pledged to provide free hostel accommodation to any female student from Canteen who gains admission into UDS,Nyankpala campus.

In a keynote address read on his behalf by Mr. Sulemana Nyadia,a Canteen Yaaro,the DCE lauded the association for the initiative and promised to support the association in its bid to augment the developmental pursuit of the assembly.

He said the government was passionate about the education of the youth;evident in its policy of Free S.H.S. among others and this resonates with the theme for CAYDA 2018 homecoming event.

Mr.Albert Diwura Kassimu,the Deputy Executive Secretary of the Ghana Export Promotion Council and a Canteen Yaaro was full of applauds for the association and the organizers of the homecoming event.Whilst pledging his continuous support for the association,he prayed for unity of purpose and the strengh to strength growth of the group.

Dr. Raphael Ayizanga,a lecturer at the University of Ghana,Legon,and a product of Canteen, encouraged the youth and students to take their studies very serious,adding that,education holds the key to unlocking potentials.

Lawyer Baba S. Zankawa who delivered a speech on behalf of the association said the association ,which started in 2017,is barely two years in existence,but has chalked a lot of sucesses ,especially,in the area of education.

He highlighted major developmental challenges facing the community and how CAYDA was positioning itself to tackling those challenges.

The chairman for the occasion was chief Cletus Zume(Zeus). Ghanaweb's Northern Regional correspondent, Ananpansah B Abraham(AB) known in the writing space as the 'village writer' has been adjudged the Development Journalist as well as the Social Media Personality of the year at the just ended maiden Hyperlink Media Awards.

Clinching two prestigious awards, the passionate writer, blogger and community advocate dedicated the 'glory' to the almighty God,his immediate family,Radio PAD & Ghanaweb.com,the people of Damongo and Canteen Electoral Area.

The awards night which was held at the Radach Conference and Lodge in Tamale had high profile media Personalities across Ghana competing in the various categories.

Ananpansah B Abraham got nominated for seven(7) of the categories out of a total of 29 categories making him the nominee with the highest number of nominations.

He competed fairly in most of his nominated categories,including the Overall Media Personality of the year,Journalist of the year,Online Journalist of the year,Story of the year among others.

At the end of the contest, he was adjudged the Development Journalist of the year as well as the Social Media Personality of the year. Two awards most people have described as well deserving, considering that, the young village writer has used the media landscape to champion the cause of development in his community, Canteen Electoral Area in the areas of communal labour, solving water challenges, securing student support packages, highlighting community challenges, promoting localised development ad infinitum.

In a brief address, he said the honour done him can only mean one thing, "do more for society, the marginalised and promote the dignity of every human person".

He emphasized that,he holds the awards to be self-evident that hard work pays and the payment can only mean more dedicated work ahead,a task he said he was more than ready to shoulder all in the bid to serve the least among these and promote community development...

Addressing the media after the event, Mr Arnold Mashud, CEO of Hyper Media Awards, said the award scheme was put together to improve and strengthen quality reportage across the country.

“We put together the awards scheme to promote healthy reportage in and across the country while promoting professionalism in the media space,” he stated.

So far,the race for national chairman and general secretary have been adjudged the most keen.

NDC polls:Elect only competent leaders-Commonwealth Hall Branch Executives urge delegates

Ahead of Saturday's National Delegate Congress,branch executives at the Commonwealth Hall in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency in the greater Accra Region have goaded delegates to elect competent and loyal leaders capable of delivering victory for the party come 2020.

In a statement,the Branch Chairman,Ananpansah Solomon urged delegates to vote decisively, adding that,it is now or never to embrace the values of probity,accountability and stability.

"There is the need now more than ever,to embrace the values of probity, accountability and stability. Let us decisively elect people based only on competence, loyalty to our party and with the firm believe that their involvement in leadership would inure to the greater picture of victory in election 2020,"he said.

The group admonished members to desist from engaging in acts that have the tendency of affecting the chances of the party moving into election 2020, describing the prospects of the party as "green".

The NDC party will tomorrow,Saturday November 17, go to the Trade Fair Centre in Accra to elect national executives to steer the affairs of the party for the next four years.

SOLIDARITY MESSAGE AHEAD OF THE  9TH DELEGATES CONGRESS.

Come Saturday,the 17th of November, we would as a party go to the polls to elect our new set of leaders to sail our party to victory come 2020.

As green as this prospect may seem, it would be wishful thinking if we do not set aside some needless impediments that have the tendency of crippling the chances of the party ahead of the 2020 election.

There is the need now than ever, to embrace the values of probity, accountability and stability. Let us decisively elect people base on competence, loyalty to our great party and with the firm believe that their involvement in leadership would inure to the greater picture of victory 2020.

On this humble note, we the Commonwealth Hall Branch Executives wish all delegates coming from the length and breadth of the country travelling mercies.
To the contestants; best wishes and a heart to accommodate whatever the outcome may be. In the end, it would be victory for the NDC and Ghana at large.

The Deputy Chief of Staff,Samuel Abu Jinapor has ask the chiefs and people of Damongo to ignore the smear campaign being waged against the Damongo water project by some sections of the public.

The Deputy Chief of Staff who was at the Jakpa Palace with a team of investors to apprise Yagbonwura of plans to establish a shea nut processing factory in Busunu in the Northern region of Ghana said,he has gotten repeated sureness from the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources,Cecilia Abena Dapaah that the Damongo Water Project was coming on stream like "kakai".

President Akuffo-Addo according to him,has heard the consistent 'cry' of Yagbonwura for drinking water...

He disclosed that,a bill for the water project was ready and will soon be laid before cabinet and the president was sure to endorse it therefrom, pleading with Yagbonwura to regard any information to the contrary as 'mere propaganda.

"Yagbonwura,what is next,Damongo Water Project.I have visited your palace on several occasions with president Akuffo-Addo and you have cried for drinking water....Yagbonwura,by the grace of God and through your prayers, the water project will come...I am very keen in the chase for this water project.The Minister responsible for Water,hon.Cecilia Dapaah, we eat together and do everything together and so anytime she meets me,the name she calls me is,"Damongo Water is coming like Kakai"...And so,anyone who says Akuffo-Addo government is on power and water is not coming to Damongo is just engaging in mere propaganda,"he stressed.

The Deputy Chief of staff in the short ceremony covered by Ghanawebs' Northern Regional Correspondent,Ananpansah B Abraham was in the company of Mrs.Valerie Obaze,daughter of president Akuffo-Addo and her husband Stanley Obaze,DCE of West Gonja District hon.Saaed Muhazu Jibreal and a team of investors lead by Madam Claire Cassey among others.

He admitted that,the erstwhile Mahama administration started something on the water project and committed in its plan to tap the water from Buipe river through old Buipe-to-Kotito and then to Damongo.The Akuffo government however,intends to connect the water along all the villages thus:tapping the water from Yapei river to pass through Ntereso to Yipala to Fulfulso Junction to Jankura to Kojokura to Sumpini to Busunu all the way to Damongo and then end at Sawla.

On Rural Electrification,he said communities such as Langantri,Kananto,Kabampe,Bidima and Soelepe were currently being connected to the national grid and he is keenly following progress of work.

SHEP 5 according to him,will soon start and all communities in and around Damongo with a population of 5,000 and above people will be considered for connection to the national grid.

On the proposed Savannah region,he urged the people to come out in their numbers on the day of the referendum and vote massively for a 99.9% "YES" endorsement.

The Chief Linguist,Alhaji Afuli who spoke on behalf of Yagbonwura thanked the team for the visit and expressed complete confidence in the government of the day.
He said the NPP was in for victory again and again and again, because, they have shown a good way.

The current Jakpa Palace according to him,was built during former president Kuffuos' regime and under president Akuffo-Addo,Gonjaland was chalking yet another victory with the creation of the proposed Savannah,and queried:"if we don't want this,what else do we want?

The first daughter of the Republic of Ghana,Mrs.Valerie Obaze has inspected pieces of land for the construction of a shea nut processing factory in Busunu in the Northern region of Ghana.
Accompanied by her husband,Stanley Obaze and team of investors,led by Madam Claire Cassey,they inspected two pieces of land in Kawankura,few meters away from Busunu and another piece of land at Laribanga for possible comparison and selection.

Addressing chiefs,elders and people of Busunu at the Busunu-Wuras' palace and covered by Ghanawebs' Ananpansah B Abraham,the Deputy Chief of Staff,Lawyer Abu Jinapor said he was delighted as a proud son of the land that such a huge project,which is one of its kind,was being realized in the district.

According to him,the project initially was not meant for the district, but he had to lobby the investors to "bring it home",adding that, the factory when completed will serve the entire Gonjaland and Northern Ghana at large.
It was his hope that the factory when entirely done,would go a long way to empower the women and create jobs for the teaming youth.

Processes he disclosed,have begun in earnest to provide the people of Busunu a Police Training Depot.

He donated a cash sum of Ghc1000,canned drinks among others to the Busunu Tuntiaya Shea butter processing association in support of their activities.

Mrs.Valerie Obaze,the firstborn of the first gentlemen of the land,His excellency Nana Akuffo-Addo in a brief remark thanked the people of Busunu for the hospitality.She disclosed that globally,the shea  nut processing business is worth three(3) billion United State Dollars and said they were ready to develop the community with the help of the people.

The DCE of West Gonja District,hon.Saeed Muhazu said the project was completely removed from central or local government.
According to him,the district was benefiting from the huge project courtesy the effort, plea and lobbying skills of Lawyer Abu Jinapor.

He touted the Deputy chief of staff as an honest politician who has been very supportive to the district and the people of Gonjaland.

The Busunu Wura in a speech read on his behalf thanked the team for choosing Busunu.
He said the team couldn't have made any better choice, since,Busunu has the largest land in the district and can generate the needed raw materials, shea nuts to feed the industry all-year round.Busunu which is centrally located he disclosed,is the only community in the district with three women groups trained in shea butter production with enough labour force,and a warehouse.

He encouraged the people to vote YES for the proposed Savannah region.
Busunu Wura decorated the first daughter and her team with the Gonja smocks as a symbol of flood tide joy in the heart ("Amabange").

Mr.Seidu Asumah,Secretary of Tuntiaya Shea butter association said the goal of the association which started in 2005 was to support women to cater for their families and communities in areas of health, education and sanitation.

The association with a membership base of 40 he disclosed,was currently bedevilled with many challenges,despite the successes chalked over the years.
The establishment of the factory which he described as very timely and in line with government's policy of one-district,one-factory will go a long way to add value and boost processing of shea butter in the district and country at large.

The team among other things, inspected the raw materials as well as the shea nut processing machines at Busunu.
