Canteen Electoral Area--Quaterly Report
27 February,2020.
1. I am happy to announce that we have completed rehabilitation works on the biggest mechanized borehole in Canteen. The dilapidated borehole structure (poles and concrete stand) was a near death trap. The situation has been prevailing spanning severel years, even before I thought of assuming my current position.
Hitherto, our women found it very difficult to climb up and down to fetch water for lack of a staircase.
We gathered the needed resources and extended the 4 inches pipes, did new concrete works and constructed a standard staircase. Some electrical works were also carried out. Next is for us to do filling of the eroded area. We are happy that we have stumped out the possibility of any loaming danger associated with the then nearly collapsed structure.
2. We successfully met and resolved a loaming impass between the residents of Frafra Resettlement Number 4 and the Fulani Herdsmen. There was a deadlock over the only source of drinking water(Stream) and safe custody of animals between the residents who rear pigs and the Fulani's herdsmen who sojouned and found temporal solace in the community.#The Fulani's were alleged to have warned the residents to confined their pigs even now that it's the lean season, else.
They were also accused of bathing and washing in the stream. The Fulani's also had their issues and differences against the residents.
The matter came to my attention during my usual routine visits to the communities and I immediately summoned a meeting between the residents and the Fulani's.There was an imicable settlement of the issues. They parties all came to a firm conclusion that the lack of communication was the cause of the loaming gaps and brewing tension and hatred. They pledged to be each others keeper and tolerate one another including their animals.
The dialogue process further engendered the need for them to engage more when there are teething problems rather than allow emotions to set in and take center stage.
3.Following several appeals and letters,I received a call last week that my request for a borehole to be drilled in one of the challenged communities in the electoral area has been approved. To this end,I was in the community during the week with the offices to survey and do the necessary preliminary works for the drilling to commense. All is set and I can assure that in no time,Canteen will smile again.
4. Over the period under review, maintenance works have also been carried out on two broken down boreholes in the community. One mechanised borehole and the other a hand pump borehole at Frafra Resettlement Number 5.
One broken down hand pump borehole has been reported and I've contracted the engineers to check on it.
The broken down parts including the pipes have been identified and we are gathering the necessary resources to have it fixed.
5.Implementation of the ban on the commercialization of the Canteen dam is well on course and the taskforce has lived up to expectations thus far. We have drawn and adopted a roadmap to recoup the dam and the necessary stakeholders will be contacted in that regard. We may be soliciting your support soon.....
Most kind regards.
Let me reiterate my firm resolve to working with you for a better community.
We are dedicated to reforming with results.
We are Ready, Able and Willing.
