4ward Development supports St Joseph Health Center with Ghc10,000.00

4ward Development supports St Joseph Health Center with Ghc10,000.00

The management and staff of the Saint Joseph Health centre in Kalba in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District are beginning to heave a sigh of relief after weeks of a temporary close down of the facility following a heavy rainstorm.

The rainstorm which occurred on March 20, 2022, ripped off the roof of the facility and destroyed valuable documents, equipment, drugs inter alia belonging to the health center compelling management to discharge patients who were on admission.

In solidarity with the over 40,000 community residents whose health is in jeopardy, 4ward Development has donated Ghc10,000 to the health centre to assist in the recovery process of fully reopening the facility.

Ahmed A. Yekini, the Regional Director of 4ward Development for the Upper West and Savannah regions, disclosed that their organization was basically into the provision of portable drinking water in Wa West, Wa East, Wa Municipal, and the Sawla-Tune-Kalba District.

He however said after receiving news of the sad turn of events at the facility through media reports and the Member of Parliament for the area, the organization couldn't hold back its desire to emphatize with the people of the area through financial solidarity.

He noted that the provision of clean water to community members without good health is pointless, hence, the need for the donation which they believe will go a long way to help the institution get back in shape so that it can continue to provide decent health care to the over 40,000 residents.

He reiterated the fact that, the major priority at the community level is primary healthcare and good water, adding that “we have so much interest in the health of the people, the last place you expect to be out of functioning capacity in a community is a clinic”.

He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the health workers at the facility for their benevolent efforts in discharging health service to clients under trees in this very trying times.

Mr. Ahemed called on other organizations and individuals to come to the aid of the facility,in order to save the lives of the thousands of people whose health was at risk.

"We recognized that we didn't have much because, we are a small institution and a private organization. We know we can't afford to put the place in good form but with the support of other benevolent individuals and organizations, the health centre can work again,"he said.

Fr. Sylvester Kuubetersuur, the Diocesan Development Coordinator, who received the donation on behalf of the St Joseph Health Centre expressed gratitude to 4ward Development Company for the kind gesture, but like Oliver Twist,he requested for additional financial and in-kind contributions.

The Chief Physician of the facility, George Sobiitey, lamented over the fact that little was being done to get the facility back on track since the terrible rainstorm occurred three weeks ago.

He raised concern about how some clients attend to themselves in their homes and then turn to the institution when complications begin to set in as a result of the breakdown of the facility.

He said the crew was discouraged about the slow pace of progress towards getting the facility back to good shape, commending 4ward Development for listening to their concerns and urged more charitable groups, Non-Governmental Organizations, and other benefactors to emulate the good example.

4ward Development is a small water company. It is not an NGO but a private company operating in communities that is into building water infrastructures, managing and making sure that communities have sustainable and safe drinking water.

St Joseph health center was built in 1980 and started operation in the year 1981 by the Catholic Church.

Separate SRC account from School management account, else - Damongo NTC SRC demands

Separate SRC account from School management account, else - Damongo NTC SRC demands

The student body of the  Damongo Nurses' Training College in the West Gonja Municipal of the Savannah Region are demanding a separation of the Student Representative Council account from that of school management account.

This the aggrieved students say will engender the spirit of transparency and enable the SRC board have full control and access to funds to run their activities.

In a petition copied to the Damongo Youth Parliament and blogger, Ananpansah Bartholomew Abraham, the president of the Student Representative Council,Frimpong Luke alleges that the students were suffering a lot of neglect in the hands of school management with the SRC making several attempts to meet the principal of the school to address the numerous challenges to no avail.

"We are not in any way against management or asking management to solve all our problems at once, but at least, something must be done. We are informing all stakeholders to intervene before we take action,"he said.

The SRC lamented among other things:the lack of access to social amenities such as portable water which the students dully paid for in their admission, students being served food on the floor, lack of access to beds which compels most students to check on the floor under threatening health conditions, the sacking of students from lecture halls without any just cause and subsequently, denying students food from the dining hall even after making 79% payment of the entire school fees.

"Permit me to spell out or perhaps remind you of the numerous neglected petitions the SRC sent to the school administration that deeply affects the students.... On 14th February,2022,a proposal letter was sent to the school management in request for funds from the SRC account being managed by the school management which shouldn't have been so, to embark on the SRC project for 2021-2022 academic year which includes:

"•Repairing of the broken lovers' benches on campus.

•purchasing of music system which the school lacks for decades.

•Mounting of a new sign board at the school entrance which the school does not have.

In request of this,No response nor attention was paid and several excuses were given by management that,"THERE IS NO MONEY". The question bordering students is that, what is the money meant for SRC being used for? And for any reason, SRC executives should be consulted and informed in any expenses from the SRC account,"excerpts from the letter reads.

The student body hints of a massive protest in the coming days and a legal action against management if their demands, which also includes:the release of SRC funds, the selection of a new SRC patron, an improvement in the quality of food served students or in the alternative cancel the feeding fee to permit 'operation feed yourself',proper supervision during intra clinical practicals inter alia are not headed to.

The training  was aimed at empowering the trainees with skills to help improve park protection and field activities. It was carried out with funding from the CITES-MIKE programme under a project titled “Protecting priority species of elephants and other target species at the Mole National Park.”  The Monitoring the Illegal Killing of Elephants(MIKE)  programme was established by the United Nations Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and is largely dependent on donor support with the European Union (EU) being the most important donor for the CITES-MIKE programme.

“As the premier park in Ghana, it is necessary that such refresher training be organized to keep staff alert and in control of the protected area,” he manager said.

The Municipal Chief Executive for West Gonja,Musah Kusubari charged the forest guards of the park to endeavor at all times to protect the animals and plant species in the park.

He reiterated the fact that discipline and patience were key ingredients to success, calling on the trainees especially, the newly inducted guards to humble themselves and learn from their leaders and those ahead of them.

"Count your self very lucky to be selected among the privileged few to work in this park. So do your very best to protect the animals.

You are here to protect the forest, so that generations yet unborn will also come and benefit from your sacrifice. If the resources in the forest are depleted and destroyed, future generations will suffer from your negligence of duty," he said.

Alfred Bara, who spoke on behalf of the instructors took trainees through an overview of the training modules and various sessions and encouraged the trainees to take the course structures very seriously.
