Dass @50: 1998 batch hands over mechanized borehole to school

Dass @50: 1998 batch hands over mechanized borehole to school

As part of activities to commemorate the 50 years Anniversary of the Damongo Senior High School (Dass),the 1998 year group has commissioned a mechanized borehole for the school.

This they believe would go a long way to ameliorate the agelong plight students go through in accessing portable water for school chores.

Funding for the project valued at Ghc10,254.00 was sourced after the members of the year group adopted a resolution on their Watsapp platform to raise funds from among themselves to realise their dream of giving back to the school community that made them clean water.

In a speech read on behalf of the year group,Adam Zackariah glorified the Almighty God for bringing the initiative to reality.

He disclosed that the idea to mechanise the borehole for the school was first mooted on the year group Watsapp platform sometime in January 2021, by one of their members,Brutus Kofi Sarpong,a one-time National Service Personnel of the school.

A delegation led by Sulemana Asuma met the then Headmaster of the school,Abubakari Salia to further consolidate and harmonise their intended desire to mechanise a borehole facility for their Alma Mata and the outcome of the discussion was mutual.

The "old bone"  said but for unity of purpose, the initiative wouldn't have seen the light of the day.

Special appreciation was expressed to Chairman Yakubu Mumuni,Alhaji Alhassan Sulemana,Madam Sadia Aminu and Mr. Abass Azumah for the exceptional financial contributions they made towards the project among others.

The group also extended their profound gratitude to the the senior prefects of their time: Dennis Faruk,Attah Mukaila and Adam Zack for their continuous unique leadership roles and coordinated efforts in keeping the spirit of the group alive.

Tributes were poured out to Adam Soale of blessed memory for creating the year group platform and bringing members together.

The group hinted of more of such projects in the coming years.

Assemblyman hands over borehole facility to community on behalf of NGANE

Assemblyman hands over borehole facility to community on behalf of NGANE

The Assemblyman for the Canteen Electoral Area, Ananpansah Bartholomew Abraham has handed over a hand pump borehole facility to residents of Canteen and Frafra Number 1 in the Canteen Electoral Area of the West Gonja Municipal of the Savannah Region.

He disclosed that, it was a blessing to have secured the borehole facility, which will go a long way to augment the already existing boreholes in addressing the water challenges in the electoral area.

According to him, the full funding for the project was by the Association of New England,USA under the coordinated efforts of Cletus Achibonga,Fatawu Mahama and Seidu Bangam, who are all born and bread in Canteen, but now resident in the United States of America in what can be christened as, "giving back to society".

He said efforts are underway through the project coordinators to get the facility fully mechanized for wider usage.

In a speech read on behalf of NGANE,the Assembly member said the diaspora association is expecting Canteen community to be good stewards of the facility in order to pave way for more of such privileges.

He said the challenge mostly has to do with regular maintenance of such facilities, adding that, last month alone he had to secure funding to repair close to nine (9) hand pump boreholes across the electoral area due to the lack of management plan. This he said has since compelled him to constitute a Water Management Committee for the electoral area under his supervision to assist in the management of the water systems in the entire electoral area.

"In return for this favor, NGANE expects the people of Canteen to collectively take good care of this borehole so that it will serve our water needs for a long time. They are convinced that the people of Canteen will claim this project as our own and be good caretakers of the borehole. Should we prove to be  good stewards, it will go long way to attracting other developmental initiatives coming from NGANE," he said.

The Assemblyman assured NGANE of good stewardship of the facility on behalf of the community and noted that, for three sons of the soil through NGANE to give water back to the society that made them was an act of God that can never be forgotten by the community.

Like Oliver Twist,he appealed to NGANE to support the community in other areas of development such as education and agriculture, whilst calling on other well meaning individuals from the community and organisations to follow the good example of NGANE and the three able sons of the soil through whom the project was made possible.

Mr. John Osman, who represented the Municipal Chief Executive described the Assemblyman as a very hard-working young man and a worthy representative of the people of Canteen.

He said it was a great blessing for Canteen to have secured such a life changing facility from NGANE through three of its sons now resident in the USA.

He said the Municipal Assembly was ready to augment such development efforts and called on the people of Canteen to continue to rally their support behind the Assembly man for him to continue to act as a good liason between the community and development partners.

Mr. Rockson Diwura, who spoke on behalf of the chiefs of the community conveyed appreciation to the donors and  reiterated that, it was a great delight for people who were born and bread in Canteen to continue to remember the community by giving back such important gestures.

He said the Assemblyman, who in no mean words is very hard-working and development oriented deserves commendations for always working with relevant development partners to facilitate development in the community, calling on the community to continue to pray and support him to change the face of the community.

He used the occasion to call on other well meaning individuals of the community and organizations to follow the good example of NGANE.

Mallam Iddrisu, the chief Imam of the community called for unity of purpose and prayed for the official opening of the borehole facility, whilst encouraging the Assembly person to continue to lobby for more development projects for the community.

The immediate past Assemblyman for the area, hon. Mohammed Gadafi lauded the current Assemblyman for the good works he was doing for the community. He said devoid of the political differences,he has decided to throw his full support behind the Assemblyman for the development of the community, since the vision he had for area was the same vision the current Assemblyman was pursuing.
