The Assemblyman for Canteen Electoral Area in the West Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region, hon.Ananpansah B. Abraham, has secured the support of a community member to fix damaged taps, water hoses among others of two mechanised boreholes.

Mr.Alhassan Sulemana Alancash,a successful Canteen born business man based in Accra came to the aid of the community after the assembly member had disclosed to him the extent of wastage of water and burden the inherited broken parts of the two mechanised boreholes were posing the community.

The businessman responded to the plea of the honourable Assemblyman by fully funding the fixing of all 12 damaged taps of the two mechanised boreholes serving the community and parts of Damongo township. This includes six taps for each borehole.
Water hoses that would reduce the hitherto stress people with gallons go through to fetch the water have also been fitted to each of the boreholes.
General repair works on some broken parts of the boreholes that until now, caused unnecessary spillage of the water were also carried out.

In what signifies the old adage of "giving back to society, the benevolent gesture by Mr.Sulemana Alancash is born out of love for his community.

The two mechanised boreholes which are under the direct supervision and management of the Municipal Water Board aside other damages, had all the taps broken down for sometime now.
The Assemblyman disclosed that,he had on several occasions notified the Municipal Water Board about the damages and the need for a quick fix but to no avail. This compelled him to call for external support to salvage a situation he had inherited in order ameliorate the plight of the people.

The taps, aside the other broken parts he revealed, were all fastened with ties long before he assumed office, causing unnecessary leakages and wastage of the water.
On assumption of office, the young assemblyman said he was determined to bring changes to the "decade long problem.

He commended Mr.Sulemana for coming to the aid of the community, describing the gesture as a mark of a true Canteen Yaaro.
Like Oliver Twist however,he called on him to still continuo to extend his benevolent hand of support to the community in other areas of endeavor, whilst appealing to other well meaning members of the community and organisations to come to their aid as there are many unresolved challenges in the Electoral Area.

According to him,to work effectively as an assembly man it's very essential to establish good rapport with people of influence who can support your course beyond the assembly, adding that,"I will continuo to lobby and expand my network towards the agenda of gradual and total reformation of the Canteen Electoral Area".

The Development Journalist said it was his vision to stay committed, leave a mark for posterity and see the Canteen Electoral Area as a shining example of "bringing good governance to the doorsteps of the people.
It was his hope that the community will support him to ensure the proper management of the water resources within the area.
He said as part of effort to ensure the proper management of the water resources in the community, his regime superintendent over the formation of a Nine (9)-Member Water Resource Management Committee for the electoral area.

It can be recalled that the assemblyman wrote a letter to the West Gonja Municipal Water Directorate compelling them to implement the president's free water supply in his electoral area and beyond.

Residents of the community who spoke to PAD FM were full of praises for the intervention.
They thanked the businessman for coming to the aid of the community, noting that the initial state of the boreholes caused a lot of wastage of the water and delayed the process of fetching water, since, they had to rely on few taps which were not even in good shape.
The Assemblyman was also commended for conveying the plight of the people to the senior Canteen Yaaro who eventually responded positively in fixing the challenges.

A resident who came to fetch water from one of the boreholes with gallons disclosed to PAD FM News that,it has now become very easy, fast and convenient to draw water from the borehole with his gallons from any location. And that, there was no more wastage of the water as a result of spillage from broken parts.

He was full of gratitude to the businessman for the support, whilst expressing confidence in the abilities of the Assemblyman to lobby for more development for the area.
According to him,the Assemblyman has started very well and will surely take Canteen Electoral Area to the promised land.
He encouraged others to emulate the good example of Mr.Sulemana.

The businessman together with his elder brother have also jointly donated a cash sum of Ghc500.00 to help fix a broken borehole at Canteen Farmer's Council.

Schools in Savannah Region to get isolation centers-Director of GHS reveals

The Savannah Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service,Dr. Chrystantus Kubio, has disclosed that in anticipation of the reopening of schools, each school in the Savannah Region would have a holding facility to handle suspected students.
These isolation centers would have health staff at post to isolate and take care of suspected COVID-19 patients should the worst case scenario occur.

In a press briefing Wednesday afternoon, the medical director shot down the possibilities of carrying out mandatory mass testing of students and teachers alike, adding that,"we don't have any such intentions to carryout mass testing of students and teachers especially so,when government has not sanctioned".

As per the directive of the president, final year tertiary students are already in school, whilst final year Senior High students and junior high students are expected to report to school on 22nd June and 29 June respectively.

He emphasized the need for the general public to adhere to the safety protocols as outlined by the Ghana Health Service in collaboration with the government.

According to him,the Ghana Health Service will soon be coming out with a new discharge protocol such that, there will not be the need for a repeated test to prove that a patient is negative after 14 days of isolation and treatment if there are no signs of Coronavirus.
He disclosed that the Savannah Region currently has three isolation centers at Damongo,Bole and Salaga with minimum capacities to contain COVID-19 cases.

The Savannah Regional Minister, hon.Salifu Adam Braimah, disclosed that first patient to have contracted the novel COVID-19 in the newly created Savannah Region has fully recovered and is living a normal life.
According to the Minister who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Salaga South Constituency, aside the first patient who has recovered, the 34 new cases-18 from Salaga and 17 from Buipe are all asymptomatic and are on self-isolation.

He further noted that until government comes out with a policy, calls for mass testing of residents cannot be possible, adding that, adequate measures are in place to protect students and teachers as schools reopen.

"As schools reopen, government has started bringing in some Personnel Protection Equipment. As and when we run short, the ministry will liase with government and they will bring in more.Yesterday,I was listening to one of the radio stations. They were asking whether RCC we couldn't force and test students and teachers? Until government comes out with a policy, no body can force anybody. So we are governed by rules and regulations,"he noted.

He lamented that the times we are in now are not normal, admonishing residents to obey the safety protocols outlined by the government and the Ghana Health Service.

In responding to a question from a journalist on how to safeguard our markets, the West Gonja Municipal Chief Executive, hon.Saeed Muhazu Jibreal disclosed that it has being very difficult for our market women to follow the safety protocols as outlined by government.

He said the Municipal Security Council met and resolved to ensure that the compulsory wearing of face mask is enforced in the municipality through the security agencies;our markets inclusive.
The enforcement of the protocols will come with education,he emphasized.

Veronica buckets he noted, have already being distributed to the markets and other public places, further stating that the municipality has taken delivery of materials that were being sewed for distribution to market women in particular. And that they were considerations to mount polytanks in market areas to the point of sinking boreholes for constant water supply to our market women.

His colleague District Chief Executive for the Central Gonja, hon.Mahama Mustapha stretched on the need to follow the protocols.
The mandatory wearing of face masks, using alcohol based hand sanitizer, observing the physical distancing to him,are critical in our collective fight against the pandemic.

He said the fact that the 34 recorded cases in the region were all asymptomatic was not only worrying, but an indication that the various could even be more in the system that is revealed.

The DCE pledged to strengthen the security in his district in order to ensure people obey the safety protocols and to safeguard the various entry points.

Also present was the Savannah Regional Coordinating Director, Alhaji Mohammed Baba.

Conduct random mass testing & equip isolation centers in Savannah Region-NDC to gov't

Conduct random mass testing & equip isolation centers in Savannah Region-NDC to gov't

In the wake of the sudden spike in cases of Coronavirus in the Savanah Region, the Savannah Regional wing of the National Democratic Congress has called on government to consider conducting random mass testing of residents for COVID-19 accross the region.

The NDC in expressing shock at the sudden spike in cases of COVID-19 in the region, believes the Akuffo-Addo government has lost the fight against the pandemic and is throwing its hands in despair.

In a press statement signed by the Secretary,Mr.Salisu Be-Awurbi,the party called on the government to earmark and equip containment and isolation centers in major towns and cities of the region as the existing one's are poorly ventilated and without the needed facilities.

According to him, proper fumigation of all public places and the distribution of locked up face masks sent from Accra can help in the fight against the virus.

He said the government must consider mandatory testing of all students and teachers before reopening schools, whilst ensuring the necessary PPEs are supplied to the schools.
Among other things, the NDC scribe holds the conviction that a proper partnership with assembly members to sensitise communities can do great deal in combating the community spread of the virus since the assembly members are more closer to the people.

NANA ADDO MUST WAKE UP FROM HIS DEEP SLUMBER BEFORE THE CORONA VIRUS CONSUMES ALL PEOPLE IN SAVANNAH

The announcement of 34 new Corona Virus cases in the Savannah Region, 18 in the East Gonja  and 16 in the Central Gonja  by the Director General of the Ghana Health Service has sent shock waves and justifiable  apprehension to all well meaning inhabitants of the Region. This bring to 35, the Total Number of Recorded cases in the Region.

This recent spike in the Region has come at a time that the Nana Addo's Government is absolutely clueless, has lost the fight against the virus, thrown his hands in despair, and virtually staring  at the virus as if to urge it on to do it's worse and to leave the remainder to what the disease may choose  to ignore.
We are pretty sure that but for the timely donations of PPEs by H.E JDM  and his Parliamentary Candidates in the Region, which became and it's still the single biggest   life saving donations to Health facilities within the Region, a lot more people and Health Staff would have contracted the virus.

This has brought painful memories of the wicked agenda of Nana Addo Led NPP Government in not only delaying but frustration the completion of ultra Modern State of the Art Health Infrastructure which were generously bequitted to the current government by the Visionary  John Mahama Led Administration but which sadly ought to suffer needless project execution delays  and some are sadly  even recklessly abandoned. If not,  by now the Buipe, Sawla and Salaga Hospitals would have been running and saving lives. If these projects were religiously followed through, in the Nature H. E John Mahama had envisaged before sour ing funding and starting them,  the Region would not have been gripped with this hysteric panic.
We therefore call on the slumbering Addo's Government, the Regional Minister and his  Army of non performing District Chief Executives to at least exhibit leadership for once and do the following as a matter of urgency to save lives and property:

1. Liase with all  Elected Honourable Assembly Members, Unit Committees, Chiefs and Community Leaders together with NCCE, Ghana Health Service, Health Volunteers, Community and Environmental Health Staffs and other relevant stakeholders to  begin immediately, the long awaited  aggressive Community Sensitizatiom and Education throughout the Region.
2. Distribute the locked up face masks, the materials of which were sent down from Accra and to additionally procured many others using the monies received from the Covid-19 Resources recently approved by Parliament and distribute them to our market women, traders, youth groups, Palaces and School Children in the Region.
3.Conduct Random Mass Testing accross the Region.
4. Properly fumigate, using the appropriate Chemicals, all public places such as markets, schools, mosques, Churches etc.  We insist and demand proper fumigation not the Charade of fumigation that the Assemblies allegedly undertook some two months ago.
5. The Governmwnt must  Properly  Equip and earmark  containment and isolation centres in the major Towns and District Capitals within Savannah. The centres must be meet the requisite standard for a dignified holding of patients. Those currently earmarked in the Savanah Region are not only  poorly ventilated and illuminated but they are also poorly maintained, needing massive refurbishment and renovations. To put few beds and mattresses together and name it an isolation or containment centre is an insult to the good people of Savannah. It betrays the huge sums of the tax payers monies Parliament approved for government to judiciously use it for the intended purpose of fighting to defeat Corona Virus. properly.. We deserve better.
6. We hearby serve Notice to the The District Chief Executives and Ministers in the Savannah Region that we are monitoring all the diversions of Public Goods to their private gains and that of the NPP Parliamentary candidates and that sooner 'NOT' later, they shall be called upon to account for their stewardship. They should desist henceforth the Practice of  passing off John Mahama and his MPs Projects as that of their own. The project theft is becoming one too many. It is not the fault of NDC that they elected Incompetent Parliamentary Candidates in Savannah Region and no amount of Projects theft and crediting same to the NPP Parliamentary Candidates will make the Bad Products appear Good. Our People are wiser than the NPP on Savvanah thinks.
7. With this spike in the Corona Virus case count in the Region, we call on the Nana Addo Government to test all Students, if it's still insistent on reopening schools, before they resume for their studies. We also call on them to be mandatorily housed, be fed and provided with the necessary items that will make their stay conducive. This should include their Teachers. The students should be cocooned from contacts with the external environment for the entire period of their stay in school while providing adequate PPEs and sanitizer for the Students and their Teachers.
8. We also call the administrator of the Covid- 19 Trust Funds to immediately and aggressively utilised the funds to fight the Virus at this time the Virus is stubbornly taking a strong hold on Rural Communities through communal spread.

COVID-19:NDC charges gov't to liase with assembly members to sensitise communities

The Savannah Regional wing of the opposition National Democratic Congress has called on government to partner with elected assembly members and other relevant stakeholders in the region to sensitise and educate residents about the Novel Coronavirus.
This the NDC believes will help curb the sudden spike of the stubborn virus in rural communities through community spread since the assembly persons are more closer to the people and understand them better.

In a press release signed by the Regional Secretary,Mr.Salisu Be-Awurbi,the NDC maintains that the clueless Akuffo-Addo led government has lost the fight against COVID-19.

He expressed shock that the Savannah Region has suddenly moved from a single case of Coronavirus to 35 cases within a matter of days, charging the government to complete abandoned health facilities started by the previous administration.

Among other suggestions, the party admonished the various MMDCEs across the region to distribute the locked up face masks sent from Accra and judiciously use the COVID-19 money approved by parliament to procure more PPEs for targeted groups in the various districts.
